Stop and Smell the Roses!
This quote means “To relax; to take time out of one’s busy schedule to enjoy or appreciate the beauty of life.” according to Wiktionary. Coming off a very long weekend with the AMTA-WA Chapter, it was nice to cook a dinner for my other half and a new friend from Portland, OR / Vancouver, BC. He travels between the two but really calls Vancouver his home.
Saturday, the AMTA-WA Board and Program managers took over a room at Bastyr University to discuss the future planning of the AMTA-WA Chapter. I believe this is my 4th meeting over the last 10 years, this year as a Board Member (Secretary). This year we did the meeting in one day. Normally it’s two days but as Volunteers, we’d rather stay for one. This year was all about mainstreaming. Keeping things simple and less burden on volunteers. It was an interesting 1/2 day. Then the Board has to discuss more items and vote on things that are necessary easy to do. But we survived and moved forward. We then had an Executive Session and as a board member I can’t divulge what was said or went on.
Most of us started out our day at 6:30 AM getting up and ready for the meeting. Then driving through Seattle with the University of Washington’s graduation and the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon. For me, they changed the route of the marathon without asking me, and it took me 1.5 hours for a normal 25 minute drive. #SeattleTraffic
After we volunteer our time and discuss AMTA-WA matters, we got treated to a wonderful Restaurant called Trellis in Kirkland. We are all now at 12 hours working at this point. It was a lot of fun but hard work as a volunteer.
Sunday, family obligations had me Urban Hiking in downtown Seattle. It was fun but tiring and we both came home and fell asleep around 8 PM. West Seattle Taxi over/back to Downtown Seattle. Stopped at Marcelas for a quick Hurricane. Then walked about in Pioneer Square with lunch at Quality Athletics.
Monday, I had a day off and was cleaning house only to get an email from the clinic manager, that he had two people on the Waitlist. I could have easily stopped everything and gone to do the massages. Who doesn’t need the money? I deferred due to getting the house ready for my new Friend and cooking food so it would be cold plated dinner after a really nice hot day.
I did a lot of firsts on Monday. I made Sangria for the first time. I made Sesame Noodles. I took the time to just sit in the front yard after all my working around the house and enjoy the weather and read a few pages of a my book.
Tuesday AM my Vancouver Friend and me went to Alki Beach to get coffee and donuts at Top Pot Donuts. We decided to sit out on a picnic bench near the water and eat, drink and talk. I really had to “step back” and realize I need to “Stop and Smell the Roses” a lot more often.
