News Blog

Here are the current news blog posts I have created thus far on this journey.

Follow Along

Today I published my renewed website to show people how it all works. You can follow along as I continue to develop my website and add past news articles to my site. If you want to follow along, please message me on my contact page. I will be happy to let you know when I have made significant changes.

Currently, I’m hosting on SiteGround, using SeedProd to design my theme and templates, and presently working on affiliated and google ad revenue to help supplement the site costs.

Feel free to also link to my Social Media!

Here are some tasks today!

  • Published Staging to Live Site
  • Changed settings to deny search engines access to crawl this site
  • turned off comments for blogs posts
  • working on Social Media buttons
  • started adding content to different pages
  • Learning how to do a landing page with SeedProd

Discourage Search Engines

If you are working on your website and it’s not ready for prime time online, you can discourage search engines from crawling your site by adding them to Google, Bing, Yahoo, and many others. Checking this box stops these search engines.

You will get warnings in your dashboard that robots can’t find your site. This is ok, as you are still developing your site. This works not only on WordPress but also on other content management systems.

Turn off Comments

Unchecking “allow people to submit comments on new posts” will remove the feature of commenting on new posts only. When you are ready to allow comments, you will have to go back and check on “Allow Comments” under the discussion tab on the individual posts. All current posts have discussions turned on, so you either change them individually or download another plug-in to stop comments. Another plug-in requires more maintenance, so make the decision lightly.

Post Comments

Warning: Comments are essential for engagement. Allowing viewers to comment keeps them engaged. There are ways of protecting yourself from spammers by using Captcha or other tools.

The next decision with posts is to cross-pollinate into your social media. Do you post and then have the social media update, or do you post then go to social media and drive people to your post? Regardless, install google analytics or another plug-in to analyze what works best for your readers.

Landing Pages

According to MailChimp

“A landing page is a standalone web page that a person “lands” on after clicking through from an email, ad, or other digital location. Every content strategy should include the use of landing pages to convert more traffic and increase conversions.”

So to drive traffic to your website, you use a standalone webpage for people to land on. The natural beauty of landing pages is to track traffic more efficiently. Today since launching my website, I used the SeedProd landing page tutorial to create a “Coming Soon” landing page.

Follow Along

This journey of re-creating my website is fun and, I hope, educational. I look forward to this journey, as it’s been a dream of mine for a long time. Won’t you follow me?

Tomorrow I will be working on the following:

  1. Category vs. Tags
  2. Copy all the old News Articles over
  3. Work on more Content
  4. Plan out the rest of the month
